Common Questions

Honest answers, in plain language.

Are cheap hearing aids any good?
For mild to moderate hearing loss: yes, often. Since 2022 the FDA regulates over-the-counter hearing aids, which pushed quality up and prices down. For severe hearing loss, we still recommend seeing an audiologist.
What's the difference with a $4,000 hearing aid from a clinic?
Clinic hearing aids include professional fitting and in-person service, and suit complex hearing loss. OTC hearing aids are self-fitted, cost 80 to 95 percent less, and work well for the most common age-related hearing loss.
Does Medicare pay for hearing aids?
Original Medicare does not cover hearing aids. Some Medicare Advantage plans offer partial allowances, so check your plan. The prices on this page are what you'd pay yourself.
Can I return a hearing aid if it doesn't work for me?
Every brand we recommend offers at least a 45-day money-back home trial. We do not list brands without a real return policy.
